Welcome to the Island of Vis! It was one of the main Greek colonies in the 4th century B.C., but today Vis has stayed relatively under-the-radar with tourists. While the rest of Croatia opened to visitors in the 1960s, Vis remained in use as a Yugoslavian army base until 1991. As a result, the culture and architecture are extremely well preserved.

The coast is characterized by its natural pebble beaches, clean and crystal clear waters and numerous caves. However, the most famous cave, Modra Spilja (Blue Cave), is located on the small island of Bisevo. The nickname Blue Cave comes from the blue hues it acquires when sunlight is reflected in the water inside the cave creating an optical phenomenon.

DAY 4: VIS – KORČULA

This morning you’ll set sail for Korčula. This is the city where, according to legend, Marco Polo was born, although there is no evidence to prove it. The old quarter is small but well preserved and full of life.

Korčula is known for its dense forest, this wooded island was named by ancient Greeks (Korkyra Melaina, meaning black Korkyra). Often considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Croatia due to it’s medieval towers and walls which surround the whole center of the town. Korčula is a “must go to” place while sailing these areas. Why? Well, that’s because, beside history, cultural and traditional heritage, this place will charm you with its olive groves, small villages, rich vineyards and excellent restaurants! And if you are lucky enough – in the evening you may witness the Moreška dance, traditional sword dance which probably has its origins in Spain and from there came to this part of Mediterranean.
