What is the meaning of Blue Flag?

Blue flag is an international environmental award given to beaches, boats, and marina´s by the non-governmental organization FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education).

To be awarded the Blue Flag, beaches and marinas must meet high standards in criteria such as swimming water quality, environmental education, environmental management, and life safety. Beaches must meet 33 criteria and marinas must meet 25 criteria.

Whenever you see blue flag, be sure you are on a special place. Simply saying blue flag is biggest worldwide eco label that confirms the cleanliness and safety of beaches, marinas, and boats.

Tukey is the 3rd country in the world with 551 Blue Flag

49 countries have participated Blue Flag program in 2021. 4820 Beaches, Marinas, and Boats currently have got Blue Flag award and these numbers increase every year.

After Spain and Greece, Tukey ranks the third country in the world with the 519 beaches, 22 marinas, and 10 boats. So, 551 Blue Flag awarded sites are available in Turkey.

Kaputaş beach is on the coastal road between Kaş and Kalkan districts of Antalya.  It fascinates visitors with golden sands and turquoise sea. Kaputaş Beach is a natural formation that emerged with the splitting of the mountains. The reason why the sea is cool and bright turquoise is that the spring water flowing from the mountains joins the sea underground.

2 Marmaris – Turunc Bay

Turunc bay is a picturesque cove, is on the south coast of Marmaris, among the pine forests and mountains. It has not only a clear sea with all shades of blue, also a rich nature and ecosystem with a variety of plants and fruits. The name of village`s comes from the famous bergamot gardens.

6 Fethiye – Butterfly Valley (Kelebekler Vadisi)

Butterfly Valley is in Fethiye, as the name suggests, is home to many species of butterflies. There is no car access to the Valley, because of reaching 350 meters vertical cliffs surrounding it. As a result, there is only accessible way by boat, or extreme hike down cliffs which is not highly recommended  

Butterfly Valley is at the foot of Babadağ, where the World Heritage Trust has declared as one of the 100 Mountains to be protected.
